One of two ‘wild cards’ to make the Tour Championship, Ryan Thompson has made six cheques on the Big Easy Tour this year, which has secured his place among the top 30.
Three top-15 results on the development tour mark a decent season for the 28-year-old, who has been a touring professional for six years. The Pretoria local has made the top-20 on 11 occasions over his three years on the Big Easy Tour, and in 2011 finished 19th at the Tour Championship.
He’s gone as high as tied seventh at the Zambia Open in 2010 and tied eighth at the Suncoast Classic in 2011.
While 2013 has been less kind than previous years, Thompson brings certain experience to the finale at Ebotse Golf Estate and that makes him a dangerous contender.
The Els Club professional has a diploma in officiating and coaching from the Tshwane University of Technology. He also has the ability to score on the course, and his career average of 3.19 birdies per round mean that he’s likely to find the front of the leaderboard at the Tour Championship.
